- <p> DIED. JOAN HARRISON, 83, screenwriter who helped pen the scripts
- for Rebecca, Foreign Correspondent and other films directed
- by Alfred Hitchcock; in London. Hired as a secretary by Hitchcock
- in 1933, a job she later said she did poorly, Harrison quickly
- proved her value on Rebecca, which won the Academy Award for
- Best Picture in 1940, as well as on the scripts for Suspicion,
- Saboteur and Shadow of a Doubt. She later worked as one of Hollywood's
- first female producers, with credits such as Phantom Lady (1944),
- Ride the Pink Horse (1947) and Circle of Danger (1951).
